Dead Sea Scrolls: The Big Picture is a LIVE ONLINE, ON DEMAND, & WATCH LATER Term 4, 2024 TWO-WEEK Course held virtually on Zoom on Two Wednesdays: May 1 & 8 from 7:00–9:30pm EST. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Since they began to be unearthed in the late 1940s and early 1950s in the caves on the western shore of the Dead Sea, the Dead Sea Scrolls have captivated scholars and piqued public interest worldwide. This course will explore the history of the discovery of the scrolls, introduce the scrolls and the various methods that scholars employ to decipher and date them, and examine their associations with religious movements in ancient Judaism.

Jonathan Kaplan (Ph.D., Harvard University) is an associate professor of Hebrew Bible and early Judaism in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He is the author of My Perfect One: Typology and Early Rabbinic Reading of Song of Songs (Oxford University Press, 2015).
